Irregular heartbeat and stroke more likely in tall people

  • Taller people are more likely to develop atrial fibrillation , an irregular and often rapid heartbeat that can lead to stroke, heart failure, and other complications, according to a study.
  • Researchers found that the risk for AFib climbed as one's height increased, with every one-inch increase in height translating to about a three per cent increase in the risk of Afib.
  • However questions exist about whether height can cause AFib, or if it's just a common, insignificant factor.

DRDO conducts Agni II missile night trial

  • Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) Agni-II finally cleared its night trial. The nuclear-capable missile was successfully flight tested by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of Indian Army.
  • Developed by DRDO under Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme, the two-stage solid-propelled Agni-II is one of the key weapon systems of the country’s nuclear deterrence doctrine.
  • Both stages of the missile have solid propulsion system, which allows the missile to be mobile and flexible.
  • Agni-II forms the triad of the country’s minimum credible nuclear deterrence along with Agni-I, Agni-III, Agni-IV and Agni-V.

Sudarshan Pattnaik becomes 1st Indian to win Italian sand art award

  • Acclaimed Indian sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has been conferred the Italian Golden Sand Art Award, 2019 at a ceremony in Rome, becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious award for his contribution to sand art.
  • Representing India at the International Scorrano Sand Nativity event held in Lecce from November 13 to 17, Pattnaik created a 10-foot high sand sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Pattnaik is a Padmashree award winner and has won various accolades for his work on sand art.

Tennis player Tomas Berdych retires

  • Former world number four and Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych announced his retirement from tennis.
  • The Czech, who won 13 ATP singles titles in a 17-year-long career, was a fixture in the world's top 10 between 2010 and 2016.
  • He was part of the Czech team that won back-to-back Davis Cup titles in 2012 and 2013.
