Govt. demands fingerprinting of WhatsApp messages

  • Union Government has demanded Facebook-owned messaging application Whatsapp to digitally fingerprint messages that are sent on its platform without breaking the encryption.
  • This move is aimed at ensuring traceability of all content shared through WhatsApp platform, without reading the message.
  • The decision is in line with draft amendments to intermediary guidelines of Information Technology Act released in December 2018, which requires all internet platforms to ensure traceability of origin of all content shared through them.

  • Former Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda was appointed as the Bhartiya Janta Party's working president during a parliamentary board meeting.
  • The announcement was made by Union Defence Minister and former BJP President Rajnath Singh after the party's highest decision-making body's meeting.
  • He is currently member of Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh. Earlier, he was Minister in Himachal Pradesh Government.

World’s highest weather stations placed atop Mt Everest

  • Scientists from National Geographic Society and Tribhuvan University have installed two highest weather stations in the world atop Mount Everest.
  • These weather monitoring stations are located at an altitude of 8,430 meters (27,657 feet) and 7,945 meters (26,066 feet). Besides, three other stations also were set up across the Mount Everest.
  • The installation of weather station is aimed at collecting weather data. The data gathered from the stations will help scientists to understand how rising global temperatures impacts rapidly melting glaciers.
