Bill gates overtakes Jeff Bezos to reclaim world’s richest person position

  • Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates overtook Amazon.com Inc.’s Jeff Bezos as the world’s richest person, reclaiming the top ranking for the first time in more than two years.
  • After Pentagon awarded $10 billion cloud-computing contract to Microsoft,its shares have climbed 4%, giving Gates a $110 billion fortune. Amazon’s stock is down about 2% since the announcement, putting Bezos’s net worth at $108.7 billion.
  • Europe’s richest person, Bernard Arnault, is third with $102.7 billion.

Goa DGP Pranab Nanda passes away

  • Goa's Director General of Police Pranab Nanda died aged 57 due to cardiac arrest while on an official visit.
  • Nanda was on a visit to Delhi after attending official functions in Goa.
  • Nanda was a 1988-batch IPS officer, who was transferred to Goa in February this year.

Rajat Sharma resigns as DDCA president

  • Senior journalist Rajat Sharma has resigned from the post of president of Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA).
    • Sharma had joined cricket administration after receiving active backing from former finance minister late Arun Jaitley.
    • He has cited differences between various other officials as the reason for his resignation.

Sabarimala temple to be open

  • The Lord Ayappa Temple at Sabarimala is all set to open on 16th November for the Mandala Pooja festival.
  • Women of all age groups will be allowed to enter the temple, but no protection will be given to the women trying to enter the temple.
  • On September 28, 2018 the Supreme Court opened the temple to women of all ages which had resulted in widespread protests by social groups against the verdict.
