Tiger MDT23 captured

  • After a massive 22-day-long operation by the forest department, tiger MDT23, believed to have been responsible for the deaths of two herders in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) and Gudalur, was captured.
  • The Madras High Court, while passing interim orders on a PIL petition last week, had directed to the Forest Department to ensure that the tiger is captured alive and no steps were taken to put it to sleep, or otherwise kill it.
  • The court had asked the officials to ensure that the least number of persons entered the forest for its capture, while stressing the need to respect its right to roam free in the wild.

Microsoft to suspend LinkedIn in China

  • Microsoft is shutting down its main LinkedIn service in China later this year after internet rules were tightened by Beijing.
  • LinkedIn will replace its localised platform in China with a new app called InJobs that has some of LinkedIn’s career-networking features.
  • China’s internet watchdog had found that LinkedIn and about 100 other apps were engaged in improper collection and use of data and ordered them to fix the problem.

CSK wins IPL 2021

  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 final in Dubai to win their fourth title.
  • Faf du Plessis scored a fine half-century, scoring 86 runs off 59 deliveries to help CSK put up a huge total of 192 for three.
  • In reply KKR could only score 165 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. For CSK, Shardul Thakur took three wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Josh Hazlewood got two each.

Actor-activist GK Govind Rao passes away

  • Writer, theatre personality, film actor and activist Prof. G. K. Govind Rao, 86, passed away in Hubballi on October 15.
  • Govind Rao was a teacher, writer, theatre personality, actor and an uncompromising activist. He was a prominent voice championing secularism and constitutional values.
  • Active in theatre, he produced, directed and acted in several plays, and was associated with Samudaya for many decades. He was president of Samudaya in the 1980s.

Senior Maoist leader RK dies

  • Senior Maoist leader and central committee member AkkirajuHargopal alias Ramakrishna alias RK is reported to have died due to an unknown disease in the forests of South Bastar.
  • RK, who joined the Maoist movement in the late 1970s in Kondapalli Seetha Ramaiah’s outfit PWG (People’s War Group), was currently the chief advisor of the organisation’s Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC).
  • He also had led the peace talks during the time of then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy in September 2004.
  • He reportedly died due to chronic illness at the Dandakarnya. He was from Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.
