Virat Kohli becomes first batsman to score 3,000 T20i runs

  • India skipper Virat Kohli became the first batsman to score 3,000 runs in T20 internationals, as he crossed the landmark during the second game of the series against England in Ahmedabad.
  • The India skipper was just 72 runs behind the milestoneand with his unbeaten knock of 73 runs, Kohli completed 3,000 runs in the format internationally. He now has 3,001 runs from 81 T20I innings.
  • New Zealand's Martin Guptill is second on the list of leading run-getters in T20I cricket, having scored 2,839 runs. India's Rohit Sharma is third in the list with 2,773 runs.

Mithali Raj becomes first woman cricketer to complete 7,000 ODI runs

  • India Women's ODI team captain Mithali Raj created history by becoming the first woman cricketer to score 7,000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket.
  • Mithali Raj achieved this milestone in the 4th ODI against South Africa Women in Lucknow. Prior to that, she had 6,974 runs to her name.Mithali Raj reached the landmark score in her 213th ODI.
  • Only recently, Mithali had become the first Indian woman cricketer and second overall to score 10,000 international runs.
  • The Indian women’s team skipper is also the second female cricketer after Charlotte Edwards to hold a record as a leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket.

Sri Lanka to ban burqa and close Madrassa

  • Sri Lanka is planning to ban Madrasas and even wearing burqas to prevent spread of extremism in the island nation.
  • The IS-inspired Easter terror bombings in Sri Lanka was attributed to a local Islamist radical network and the government temporarily banned the face veil using emergency laws.
  • Some sections criticised the move then for ‘targeting’ the women of the community that had not only condemned the attacks but also provided evidence that investigators said was crucial to their probe.
  • The announcement on the burqa ban comes after a year-long controversy over the government’s policy of mandatory cremation of COVID-19 victims, based on unsubstantiated claims that the bodies would contaminate ground water.

Mumbai wins Vijay Hazare trophy

  • Mumbai won the Vijay Hazare title triumph with a crushing six-wicket victory over Uttar Pradesh in one of the most lopsided finals.
  • During the course of the tournament, Prithvi Shaw scored over 800 runs in the tournament edition, becoming the only player to achieve the feat. He slammed as many as 4 hundreds.
  • The Vijay Hazare Trophywas started in 2002-03 as a limited-overs cricket domestic competition involving state teams from the Ranji Trophy plates. It is named after the legendary Indian cricketer Vijay Hazare.

Bhavani Devi becomes first Indian fencer to qualify for Olympics

  • Tamil Nadu's Chadalavada Anandha Bhavani Devi scripted history as she became the first-ever fencer from India to quality for Olympic Games. Bhavani secured a spot for the Tokyo Olympics at the World Cup in Hungary.
  • The fencer secured a spot in the World Cup in Hungary after the hosts lost in the quarterfinals of the team event, allowing South Korea to progress to the semi-final.
  • Bhavani Devi qualifies through the Adjusted Official Ranking (AOR) Method. Two individual spots were up for grabs for the Asia and Oceania region based on the World Rankings as of April 5, 2021. She is ranked 45th and occupies one of the two available slots based on the ranking.
