  • Veteran Kannada actress Bhargavi Narayan breathed her last recently. The late actress was83 years old. She was famous for her role in serials and plays.
  • Bhargavi’s noted films include ‘EraduKanasu’, ‘HanthakanaSanchu’, ‘PallaviAnupallavi’, ‘Vamshavriksha’, ‘Professor Hucchuraya’, ‘Baa NalleMadhuchandrake’, etc.
  • She went on to act in numerous critically acclaimed films. She has worked with several stalwarts of Kannada cinema.

Lalu Prasad Yadav convicted in 5th Fodder Scam case

  • RJD chief and ex-Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has been found guilty of illegal withdrawals of Rs 139.35 crore from the Doranda treasury by a special CBI court in Jharkhand’s Ranchi.
  • Lalu Yadav has now been convicted in all five fodder scam cases in which he was named as a conspirator.
  • The case involves funds taken by Bihar’s Animal Husbandry Department between 1991 and 1996, when Lalu Yadav was Chief Minister. He has also spent over 3.5 years in judicial custody as part of his sentencing.

Canadian PM invokes emergency powers to tackle truckers’ protests

  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has invoked rarely used special measures allowing him to tackle protests that have shut some border crossings and paralyzed downtown Ottawa.
  • Thousands of protesters in trucks and other vehicles have clogged the streets of Ottawa, the capital, and besieged Parliament Hill.
  • Members of theFreedom Convoy have also blockaded various U.S.-Canadian border crossings, though the busiest and most important — the Ambassador Bridge connecting Windsor, Ontario, to Detroit.

India asks its citizens to leave Ukraine

  • India advised its citizens, especially students, to leave Ukraine temporarily amid ‘uncertainties’. It also asked citizens to avoid non-essential travel to and within the country.
  • The move comes amidst concerns that Russia might invade Kyiv. Moscow denies it has any plans to invade Ukraine.
  • Earlier, the United States announced that it will close its embassy in Ukraine, and move the staffers to a city near the Polish border.

Ilker Ayci appointed Air India MD and CEO

  • Air India will have a new chief executive and managing director in Ilker Ayci, former chairman of Turkish airlines, Tata Sons.
  • The development is in line with the Tata Group’s plans to appoint an expatriate chief to run the airline it took over from the Indian government last month.
  • Ilker Ayci was chairman of Turkish Airlines since 2015, and his resignation from the post was announced by the airline on January 27.
