  • Algorithm that can increase the accuracy of data from exoplanets by reducing the contamination by the Earth’s own atmosphere and the disturbances due to instrumental effects and other factors.
  • This algorithm, called the critical noise treatment algorithm, can help to study the environment of exoplanets with better precision.

First Rhino horn NFT sold in South Africa

  • A digital replica of a rhino horn was sold at an auction in South Africa, as conservationists tapped into the craze for NFTs to raise money to protect real rhinos.
  • Proceeds from the sale go to the private Black Rock Rhino conservancy, home to 200 rhinos that are able to breed while protected from poachers.
  • Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have made a huge splash among art collectors who have spent millions of dollars on digital drawings, music, and videos.

Former Goa CM LuizinhoFaleironominated to RS

  • The Trinamool Congress (TMC) nominated former Goa Chief Minister LuizinhoFaleiro to the Rajya Sabha.
  • Election to a Rajya Sabha seat from West Bengal is scheduled on November 29. TMC MP Arpita Ghosh tendered her resignation from the Upper House on September 15, and the seat has been vacant ever since.
  • The former Congress leader joined the TMC on September 29 and was later appointed vice-president of the party.

Saudi Arabia recognises Covishield for entering the country

  • Saudi Arabia has recognised Serum Institute of India’s Covishield as an approved Covid-19 vaccine for entry into the country.
  • With this, Covishield has joined the list of eight other approved vaccines, Pfizer BioNTech, Comirnaty, Oxford AstraZeneca, SK Bioscience, Vaxzevria, Moderna, Spikevax and Johnson & Johnson.
  • Travellers who are fully vaccinated with Saudi-approved vaccines can enter the country without having to undergo institutional quarantine.

Government grants permanent commission to womenofficers

  • The Central government agreed to grant permanent commission (PC) to 11 women Army officers who meet the eligibility criteria, after the Supreme Court threatened to initiate contempt proceedings.
  • Short Service Commission (SSC) women officers, who have not approached the court but nonetheless meet the various eligibility criteria, would be granted PC in three weeks.
  • In October, the court similarly intervened with the government in favour of granting PC to 39 other SSC women officers.
