Dutee Chand named in TIME 100 Next list

  • India sprinter Dutee Chand has been named in the TIME 100 Next, an expansion of the TIME 100 list of the most influential persons in the world.
  •  The list, an initiative of TIME magazine, highlights 100 rising stars who are shaping the future of business, entertainment, sports, politics, health, science, activism etc.
  • Dutee Chand had become the first Indian woman sprinter to win gold at the Universiade in Napoli where she competed in 100m and had won two silver medals in 100m, 200m at Jakarta Asian Games.

Supreme court dismisses review petition in Rafale controversy

  • The Supreme Court has dismissed review petitionseeking an investigation into the alleged irregularities into the 58,000 crore Rafale deal with French firm Dassault Aviation.
  • The decision of the Supreme Court pertains to giving the government a clean chit on this regard.
  • The review petitioners had claimed that the verdict was based on "multiple falsehoods and suppression of material and relevant information".

Brazil president to be the chief guest for Republic day celebrations in 2020

  • During PM Modi’s meeting with Bolsonaro, the two leaders also discussed other areas of cooperation including space and defence sectors.
  • PM Modi also welcomed the decision of the President to grant visa-free travel to Indian citizens.

India’s 1st fully fledgedglobal cruise terminal in Kochi

  • India’s first full-fledged international cruise terminal is coming up at Ernakulam wharf in Willingdon Island, Kochi.
  • The cruise terminal will have facilities to handle 5,000 tourists. It will bring under one roof personnel of Customs, Bureau of Immigration and CISF, speeding up paperwork.
  • There will also be a permanent space for selling artefacts and others to tourists, aimed at improving visitor experience.

Sikhs 3rd most targeted group in US

  • A report by the FBI has shown that Sikh community is the third most commonly targeted religious group after Jews and Muslims in the US.
  • The largest number of hate crimes based on religion were reported against Jews (835), followed by Muslims (188) and Sikhs (60).
  • According to the FBI report, 91 hate crimes were reported against other religion, including 12 against Hindus and ten anti-Buddhist crimes.
