Butterfly diversity increases in Sikkim

Comet from another solar system

  • Scientists have discovered a new comet coming towards our solar system. The studies have suggested that the comet belongs to another solar system, thereby becoming the first extra solar comet to visit our solar system.
  • The comet has been named as2I/Borisov, based on the name of its discoverer and is travelling from an unknown galaxy, towards a binary star system called Kruger 60 about 13 light-yearsaway from Earth. 
  • The comet has already crossed Jupiter and Saturn and will reach its nearest point near the sun in December.
  • A comet is an icy, small Solar System body that, when passing close to the Sun, warms and begins to release gases. This produces a visible atmosphere or coma, sometimes also called a tail.

Section 144 imposed in Ayodhya

  • Restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPc have been imposed in Ayodhya in anticipation of the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case verdict in the Supreme Court.
  • Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1973 empowers an executive magistrate to prohibit an assembly of more than four people in an area.

Wholesale inflation dips

  • Wholesale price based (WPI) inflation eased to 0.33 per cent in September against 1.08 per cent in August according to government data.
  • The rate of price rise for the food articles was at 7.47 per cent during the month, while that for non-food articles stood at 2.18 per cent.
  • Build up inflation rate in the financial year so far was 1.17 per cent compared to a build up rate of 3.96 per cent during the same period previous year.
  • The manufactured products index rose by 0.1 per cent to 117.9 (provisional) from 117.8 (provisional) for the previous month.

Nobel prize for Economics

  • The Nobel Prize in Economics for 2019 has been awarded to Abhijit Banerjee,Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.
