UP scraps law that makes state pay income tax of ministers

  • The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to scrap a 40 year old law, which mandated state government to pay the income tax of all state Ministers including the chief minister.
  • The law, Uttar Pradesh Ministers’ Salaries, Allowances and Miscellaneous Act, 1981, was enacted when V P Singh was chief minister.

Rajasthan launches information portal

  • Rajasthan became the first state to launch a public information portal called 'Jan Soochana portal'.
  • The portal will provide information about government authorities and departments suo motu to the public in the true spirit of the Right To Information Act. 
  • The State government has collaborated with the civil society groups to develop the portal.
  • The State government will set up information kiosks in village panchayats and self-service e-mitra centres in the towns to enable the people to access the information useful for them.

Drone attacks on Saudi oil facility ARAMCO

Memorial for polish refugees in Kolhapur

  • A pillar in memory of polish refugees who lived in Valivade village in Kolhapur district will be innaugrated soon.
  • A permanent museum dedicated to the memory of the 5,000 Polish people who lived in the Valivade camp will be constructed soon.
  • The refugees had arrived in India after Nazi invasion of Poland during World War II.

LCA Tejas makes arrested Landing

  • Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) on Friday succeeded in the first “arrested landing” test in the country.
  • The arrested landing is very important for any aircraft for enhancing its ability to land on an aircraft carrier.
  • The HAL Tejas is an Indian single-engine, delta wing, multirole light fighter designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.

Indian origin Sikhs removed from adverse list

  • At least 312 Indian-origin Sikhs living in foreign countries have been removed from a Ministry of Home Affairs “adverse list”.
  • The beneficiaries can apply for Indian visa and also visit the country in the future. They can also be eligible for registering as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).
  • The list was prepared after the 1984 Sikh riots when certain individuals were influenced by anti-India propaganda and took part in secessionist movement.
