A dragonfly endemic to Western Ghats has been photographed for the first timeby Ravindran Kamatchi of Nature Society of Tiruppur at Kallar in Coimbatore. The species is called Megalogomphussuperbus and its observation is rare.
Though the species is also there in the checklist of dragonflies in Kerala, nobody photographed it. The species was never reported seen in Tamil Nadu after British entomologist F.C.Fraser.
British entomologist F.C. Fraser has described sighting of the species in 1931 and 1934 at Boluvampatti, Walayar and Kallar.
The dragonfly belongs to gomphidae family which has six dragonflies – two in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, one in Sri Lank and three others in the northeast.
India’s oldest first-class cricketer Vasant Raiji passed away at his residence in Mumbai. Raiji was 100 years old.
Raiji, who was chartered accountant to start with, could not ignore his love for cricket. The right-handed batsman, played nine first-class matches for Mumbai and Baroda in the 1940s, scoring 277 runs with 68 being his highest score in his decade-long career.
Raiji’s debut was neither for Mumbai nor for Baroda. He played his first game for a Cricket Club of India team that locked horns with Central Provinces and Berar in Nagpur in 1939.
Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide by hanging. His body was found at his Bandra home. He was 34.
Sushant Singh Rajput essayed the male lead of Ekta Kapoor’s daily show Pavitra Rishtra alongside Ankita Lokhande. He later went on to participate in dance reality shows, Zara Nachke Dikha and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4.
He made his debut with the 2013 movie Kai Po Che! He later bagged lead roles in movies such as Yash Raj Films’ Shuddh Desi Romance, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath and the more recent Chhichhore.
