Aarohi Pandit: World’s 1st women to cross Atlantic Ocean solo

  • Captain Aarohi Pandit, a 23-year-old pilot from Mumbai, became first woman in the world to cross the Atlantic Ocean solo in Light Sports Aircraft (LSA).

  • She had started her journey from Wick, Scotland (United Kingdom) and landed her aircraft at Iqaluit Airport, Canada after covering 3,000 km long fight with one stop at Greenland and Iceland.

  • She had undertaken this mission as part of her ongoing one-year-long global circumnavigation flight expedition launched with her friend Keithair Misquitta.

Kami Rita climbs Mt. Everest for record 23rd time

  • Nepali Sherpa climber Kami Rita (49) created world record by climbing Mt. Everest for 23rd time. He broke his own record for most summits on Mt. Everest. He successfully climbed mountain from the Nepal side.
  • Rita resides in Thame village of Solukhumbu district, Nepal. For the first time, he had scaled the Mt. Everest in 1994.
  • In 2017, he became third person to climb the highest peak for 21 times along with the record held by Apa Sherpa and Phurba Tashi Sherpa.

MHA cancels FCRA registration of Infosys foundation

  • Union Ministry of Home Affairs has cancelled registration of NGO Infosys Foundation under the Foreign Contribution (Regulations) Act (FCRA) for violating norms of receiving foreign grants. Infosys Foundation has not submitted annual income and expenditure statement on foreign funding for the last 6 years.
  • Under the FCRA Act, all non-government organisations (NGOs) have to mandatorily register. Besides it is also mandatory for NGOs to submit annual report of income and expenditure statement, receipts and payment account, balance sheet etc.

RBI imposes Rs.1 crore fine on Nainital Bank

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed monetary penalty of Rs 1 crore on Nanital Bank for failing to fully automate non-performing asset (NPA) identification process, despite specific directions issued by it. The fine was imposed under provision of Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

Indian Navy’s first full-fledged SSB inaugurated in Kolkata

  • Indian Navy’s first full-fledged Service Selection Board (SSB) was inaugurated recently by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba at Diamond Harbour, near Kolkata, West Bengal.
  • This is overall fifth SSB of the Indian Navy. It will select both Permanent and Short Service Commission officers.
  • It is spread over 27 acres on Hooghly river-bank. It can screen an estimated 5000 officer-candidates annually.
  • The other four non full-fledged Boards are located in Bhopal, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, and Coimbatore.
