Mumbai City FC wins Indian Super League title

  • Mumbai City FC won their maiden Indian Super League (ISL) title with a 2-1 victory over ATK Mohun Bagan in the final.
  • Bipin Singh scored on the 90th minute to seal the issue in Mumbai City FC's favour at the Fatorda Stadium.
  • Mumbai City FC has also qualified for AFC championship that will be a club level tournament held among different clubs of Asia.

More twins born now that earlier

  • More twins are being born now than ever before, largely due to rising use of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and other assisted reproduction techniques, the first global study of human twinning has found.
  • They found a 71% rise in twinning rates in North America, as well as significant rises in many European countries and in Asia. For Asia overall, there was a 32% increase.
  • While factors such as women choosing to start families later, greater use of contraception, and lower fertility rates might be playing some part in the increase in twinning rates are the main drivers.
  • Such fertility treatments were originally available in wealthier regions, but spread to emerging economies in Asia and Latin America in the 1980s and 1990s, reaching the relatively richer parts of South Asia and Africa after 2000.

PM Modi flags off symbolic Dandi march

  • The PM flagged off a symbolic 386-kilometre-long Dandi March from the precincts of the Sabarmati Ashram on the 91st anniversary of the historic protest.
  • He also launched the celebration of 75 years of independence “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, which will go on for 75 weeks until August 15, 2022, India’s 75th Independence Day.
  • Salt march was launched on the same day by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930 as a springboard to the Civil Disobedience movement in opposition to a salt tax imposed in India by the British.

Passengers not following Covid-19 protocols to be put on no-fly list

  • Passengers refusing to wear a mask properly or follow social distancing norms during a flight despite repeated warnings could be put on a no-fly list for a period of three months to two years or more.
  • The DGCA has also said that if a passenger refuses to comply with the instructions before a flight takes off, then he or she should be deboarded.
  • The civil aviation requirements on unruly passengers provides for an offender to be put on a no-fly list for varying periods — three months for verbal abuse, six months for physical assault and two years or more for life threatening behaviour.

Former minister Yashwant Sinha joins TMC

  • Former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha joined the Trinamool Congress.Sinha had also campaigned for the party during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal.
  • Yashwant Sinha, who served in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had quit the BJP in 2018.
  • Sinha had served as Union finance minister twice- once in the Chandra Sekhar cabinet in 1990 and then again in the Vajpayee ministry.
