Nepal’s Supreme court orders Sher Bahadur Deuba to be appointed Prime minister

  • Nepal’s Supreme Court passed an order on the appointment of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister of the country within two days.
  • President Bidya Devi Bhandari had dissolved the 275-member lower house for the second time in five months on May 22 at the recommendation of Prime Minister Oli and announced snap elections on November 12 and November 19.
  • Sher Bahadur  Deuba, 74, has served as the prime minister on four occasions.The court also ordered summoning a new session of House of Representatives at 5 PM on July 18.

Vinay Prakash named Twitter Resident Grievance Officer

  • Micro-blogging site Twitter has appointed Vinay Prakash as its interim Resident Grievance Officer (RGO) for India. 
  • The company had recently informed the Delhi High Court that it was in the process of making an offer of appointment to a resident of India as its interim RGO and expects to do so on or before July 11, 2021. 
  • The US-based company has been in the eye of a storm over its alleged failure to comply with the new IT rules in India, which mandates the appointment of three key personnel -- Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Officer and Grievance Officer.
  • The company on its website has informed that Prakash is the RGO and users can contact him using an email ID listed on the page.

Former Indian cricketer Yashpal Sharma passes away

  • Former Indian cricketer Yashpal Sharma, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, passed away due to cardiac arrest.
  • Sharma represented India in 37 Test matches and 42 one-day internationals. He was India's second highest scorer behind Kapil Dev in the tournament.
  • He made his Test debut for India on the tour of England in 1979 and played the last of his 37 Tests in October 1983.
  • Yashpal served as a national selector for a couple years until December 2005 and was reappointed to the panel in 2008.

Indian-American Samir Banerjee wins Wimbledon junior tournament

  • Indian-origin Samir Banerjee won the boys' singles final against compatriot Victor Lilov at the All England Club.The 17-year-old Banerjee won 7-5, 6-3 on No. 1 Court in the all-American final.
  • Banerjee is the first American junior champion at Wimbledon since Reilly Opelka in 2015, and 12th overall. Both were unseeded at the tournament.
  • Banerjee is from New Jersey and Lilov comes from North Carolina.Banerjee lives in New Jersey and started his professional tennis career as recently as last year.

Novak Djokovic wins Wimbledon tournament

  • World no.1 Novak Djokovic won his third Grand Slam title of 2021 as he beat Matteo Berrettini 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the final to clinch the Wimbledon men's singles title.
  • Djokovic has now won 20 Grand Slam titles, equal with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the all-time championship winners' list. He is on course for a Career Grand Slam and needs to win the US Open to become the first man since Rod Laver (1969) to do so.
  • Djokovic is only behind Pete Sampras (7) and Roger Federer (8) in the list of players with the most Wimbledon championships in Open era.
