AK Dhingra: 1st chief of Armed Forces Special Operations Division

  • Major General AK Dhingra was appointed as the first chief of Armed Forces Special Operations Division (AFSOD) which comprises commandos from all the three service.
  • He hails rom elite 1 Para Special Forces Regiment of Indian Army. He was part of Indian Peacekeeping Force Operations (IPFK) in Sri Lanka from 1987 to 1990.
  • Union Defence Ministry had recently set up AFSOD with aim of undertaking joint operations by three services.
  • It comprises of Special Forces commandos from Army’s Parachute Regiments, Navy’s Marine Commandos (MARCOS) and Air Force’s Garud commandos.
  • This new division will work under tri-services Integrated Defence Staff. Its headquarters will be located either in Agra or Bengaluru after finalization by Defence Ministry.

Sanjiv Puri appointed as Chairman of ITC

  • Managing Director of ITC Limited Sanjiv Puri (56) was appointed as the chairman of ITC. He will succeed Yogesh Chander Deveshwar has passed away recently.
  • With this, Sanjiv Puri becomes both Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of ITC. He was appointed as a Managing Director of ITC in 2018 and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in February 2017.

Madan Lokur appointed in Fiji’s Non-resident panel of Supreme Court

  • Former Supreme Court of India judge, Justice Madan Bhimrao Lokur was appointed to Supreme Court of Fiji’s non-resident panel for 3 years. He was invited by Chief Justice of Fiji and received the appointment letter in December 2018.
  • Over the years, Fiji has also invited judges from other countries like Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka on its non-resident panel.
  • Justice MB Lokur will be part of August session of Supreme Court of Fiji which will begin on August 15 and concludes on August 30, 2019. It is one of three sessions conducted by Fiji’s Supreme Court.

Dinesh Pangtey appointed CEO of LIC Mutual Fund

  • Dinesh Pangtey was appointed as CEO of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Mutual Fund. He succeeds Shri Raj Kumar.
  • He is former Director and Chief Executive Officer at LIC HFL (Housing Finance Ltd) AMC (Asset Management Company).
  • He has rich experience of 35 years across various sectors like insurance sector, private equity, life, pension and group superannuation scheme.
  • He had strategized setting up of new fund under SEBI AIF platform and had directly raised 92% of base corpus. The fund is poised soon to exhaust greenshoe option and close at Rs 1000 Crore.

Bull Strike: Tri services exercise conducted at Teressa Island

  • All three services of Indian armed forces viz. Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force conducted joint exercise Bull Strike at Teressa Island in Andaman and Nicobar.
  • The objective this exercise was to enhance coordination between tri-services in dealing with major security challenges and also showcase joint operation capability of three forces.
  • Total 170 troops from all three services had participated in this exercise and had carried out para drop operations in Combat Free Fall and Static Line mode.
