Minor planets discovered beyond Neptune

  • Astronomers have discovered 139 small bodies circling the sun that are neither official planets nor comets, in the dark, frigid depths beyond Neptune's orbit.
  • The new additions represent nearly 5% of the current trans-Neptunian object (TNO) tally, which stands at about 3,000.
  • The scientists pored over data gathered by the Dark Energy Survey (DES) during its first four years of operation. As the project's name implies, the main goal of the DES involves shedding light on dark energy.

Saurashtra wins Ranji trophy

  • This is the 1st title for Saurashtra in Ranji trophy history.

Karnataka man becomes firstfatality to Coronavirus

  • India has recorded its first death linked to the coronavirus. A 76-year-old man, from the state of Karnataka, who had returned from Saudi Arabia on 29 February after a month-long visit.
  • Officials said he was screened at the airport when he arrived from Saudi Arabia, but showed no symptoms at the time.
  • India has 73 confirmed cases of the virus. India has taken a number of steps to halt the spread of Covid-19 such as restricting public gatherings, overseas travel etc.

Canadian PM’s wife tested positive for Coronavirus

  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife has tested positive for the new coronavirus.
  • The first lady of Canada had returned from a speaking engagement in Britain and had mild flu-like symptoms, including a low fever.
  • The press secretary of Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for the coronavirus within days of interacting with President Donald Trump .

Delhi declares COVID-19 epidemic

  • Delhi declared Covid-19 an epidemic and ordered all cinema halls shut, Mumbai banned all public events, and at least four states said they were suspending regular classes in schools and colleges.
  • The Delhi administration also directed made it mandatory for all offices, shopping malls and other public spaces to be disinfected on a daily basis.
  • As a related measure, Rashtrapati Bhavan will remain closed for exploratory tour visits from March 13 till further notice. In addition, the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Complex and the Change of Guard ceremony will also not be open to public.
