Scientists create world’s Smallest Colour Pixels

  • Scientists from University of Cambridge, UK have created world’s smallest colour pixels by trapping the particles of light under the tiny rocks of gold.
  • These pixels can be used for new types of large-scale flexible displays and are big enough to cover entire buildings.
  • These are smallest pixels ever created and are smaller than typical smart phone pixels. They are compatible with roll-to-roll fabrication on flexible plastic films which reduces their production cost.

HDFC Insurance launches Mosquito Disease Protection Policy

  • HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company launched scheme termed ‘Mosquito Disease Protection Policy’. It is India’s first such insurance policy against mosquito-borne diseases.
  • It will provide insurance cover to person against common mosquito-borne diseases, namely, Dengue Fever, Malaria, Chikungunya, Kala-azar, Japanese Encephalitis, Lymphatic Filariasis and Zika Virus.
  • HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company is India’s 3rd-largest non-life insurance provider in the private sector.
  • Background: According to the report published by National Health Profile 2018, There has been stark rise of 300% dengue cases in India between 2009-2017.
  • These mosquitoborne diseases are increasing financial burden due to hospitalization and  are not covered in any conventional Health Insurance.

Sana Mir: Highest wicket-taking women spinner in ODI

  • Pakistan’s off-spinner Sana Mir (33) became highest wicket-taking women spinner in One Day International (ODI) cricket.
  • She achieved this feat after taking her 147th wicket against South Africa in the 3rd ODI of the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Championship in Benoni, South Africa.
  • In the overall ICC’s ODI bowling ranking in women’s cricket, she is ranked 3rd after India’s Jhulan Goswami (218) and Australia’s Cathryn Fitzpatrick (180).

Artemis: NASA’s moon mission

  • US Space Agency National Aeronautics and Space Organization (NASA) announced its Mission to Moon “Artemis” which is to be achieved by 2024.
  • The Mission is named ‘Artemis’ after the Greek mythological goddess of the Moon and twin sister to Apollo, whose name was used by NASA for series of spacecraft that first landed Americans on the moon in 1969.
