Singhbhum may be the earliest continental mass to rise above ocean

  • A recent research has shown that the Earth’s first continents may have risen out of the ocean about 700 million years earlier than previously thought.
  • Scientists have found sandstones in Singhbhum with geological signatures of ancient river channels, tidal plains and beaches over 3.2 billion years old, representing the earliest crust exposed to air.
  • The researchers believe that the earliest emergence of continents would have contributed to the proliferation of photosynthetic organisms, which would have increased oxygen levels in the atmosphere.

Falguni Nayar of Nykaa becomes India’s first self-made billionaire

  • Nykaa founder Falguni Nayar became India’s seventh woman billionaire and the wealthiest self-made billionaire in an ongoing initial public offering (IPO) boom.
  • The market cap of the beauty and fashion retailer hit an overall valuation of 1 trillion rupees ($13.5 billion) in the first five minutes of trade. It’s market cap had already matched industry giants such as Britannia, Godrej, and IndiGo.
  • Nykaa is India’s first unicorn startup headed by a woman and was founded by Falguni Nayar in 2012, selling beauty and personal care products via its mobile app and website.

  • Chasing 167 to win, Daryl Mitchell anchored the innings with a sensational unbeaten 72 off 47 balls, while Devon Conway scored a 38-ball 46. James Neesham smashed 27 off 11 runs to play a crucial role in the chase.
  • England posted 166 for four riding on Moeen Ali’s 51 not out and some useful contributions from Dawid Malan (42), Jos Buttler (29) and Liam Livingstone (17).

First Indian layman to be conferred sainthood

  • Devasahayam Pillai, a Hindu converted to Christianity in the 18th century, will become the first Indian layman to be conferred sainthood.
  • Pope Francis will canonize Blessed Devasahayam Pillai, together with six other Blesseds, during a Canonization Mass in St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican on May 15, 2022,
  • With the completion of the process, Pillai, who took the name “Lazarus” after embracing Christianity in 1745, will become the first lay person from India to become a saint.
