World’s highest lake discovered in Nepal

  • A newly discovered lake, The Kajin Sara Lake is set to be declared the highest lake in the world at an approximate altitude 0f 5,200 m above sea level.
  • The new lake discovered in the Manang district of Nepal is all set to replace Lake Tilicho which is located at an altitude of 4.919 m above sea level in Nepal.

Large asteroid crashes on Jupiter

  • An asteroid, the size of the earth has possibly crashed into Jupiter as reported by independent astronomers.
  • The impact was observed in the South-Equatorial Belt (SEB) of Jupiter.
  • Previously a recorded impact on Jupiter had occurred in 1994 when SL9 or Comet Shoemaker-Levy had hit Jupiter.

China launches largest reusable rocket

  • China’s 1st private rocket company Link Space has successfully launched its independently developed reusable rocket. This is the largest and most advanced reusable rocket in china.
  • The rocket, RLV-T5 flew to a designated height of 300m and then safely landed with a landing accuracy of 7cm in 50 seconds.

IIT-M registers initial success with iron-ion battery

  • IIT-Madras researchers have for the 1st time fabricated a rechargeable iron-ion battery using mild steel as anode.
  • The iron-ion battery is cost effective and the amount of energy stored in the battery is also high. The efficiency is about 40% of Lithium ion batteries.
  • With no lithium reserves in India and shortages across the world, developing rechargeable batteries from other materials is a major challenge.

Section 144 removed from Jammu and Kashmir

  • It bars the assembly the assembly of five or more people in an area where it has been imposed. It also empowers the authorities to block internet access.
