Twitter to reverse Donald Trump’s ban from platform

  • Billionaire Elon Musk said he would reverse Twitter’s ban on former U.S. President Donald Trump when he buys the social media platform.
  • The decision is expected to be made when Musk buys Twitter for $44 bn. He is expected to take over as temporary CEO.
  • Twitter, like other U.S.-based social media platforms, has banned various individuals for violating its policies on misinformation and glorification of violence.

Supreme court orders freezing of sedition law

  • The Supreme Court restrained the Centre and States from registering FIRs, continuing any investigations or taking any coercive measures under Section 124A (sedition) while the colonial provision is under reconsideration.
  • A three-judge Bench directed that in case any fresh case was registered under the provision, the accused was free to approach the court concerned.
  • The court ordered that appeals and proceedings under Section 124A should be kept in abeyance for the time being. However, proceedings under other sections of law would continue.

Architect Balkrishna Doshi honoured with Royal Gold Medal

  • Acclaimed architect Balkrishna Doshi was conferred the prestigious Royal Gold Medal 2022, one of the world’s highest honours for architecture, by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
  • Doshi is the only one from India and to have been awarded both the Royal Gold Medal and the Pritzker Architecture Prize, often referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture.
  • Doshi worked with Le Corbusier as Senior Designer (1951-54) in Paris and four more years in India to supervise projects in Ahmedabad.

Former Union minister PanditSukh Ram passes away

  • Veteran Congress leader and former Union minister PanditSukh Ram has passed away. He was 94.
  • Sukh Ram was the Union Minister of State, Communications (Independent Charge) from 1993 to 1996. He won the Vidhan Sabha elections five times and the Lok Sabha elections three times.
  • In 2011, he was sentenced to five years of imprisonment for corruption when he was Communications Minister in 1996.
