BCCI CEO Rahul Johri resigns

  • The BCCI has accepted the resignation of its first-ever chief executive officer (CEO), Rahul Johri, who had resigned few days back.
  • Johri was appointed CEO of the board in 2016 when Shashank Manohar was the president and Himachal's Anurag Thakur the secretary.
  • Before he joined the BCCI, Johri had served as Discovery Networks Asia Pacific's executive vice-president and general manager for South Asia.
  • The appointment of a CEO, back then, was one of the key recommendations made by the Lodha Committee.

Asia Cup 2020 postponed

  • This year's Asia Cup tournament, originally scheduled for September, has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Pakistan, who were set to host the tournament this year in the United Arab Emirates, have exchanged hosting rights with Sri Lanka, who will stage next year's event, while the Pakistan Cricket Board will host the 2022 edition.
  • The PCB had been granted the rights to host this year's tournament but India were unwilling to travel to Pakistan amid political tension between the two countries, prompting the PCB to swap hosting rights with Sri Lanka.

Army personnel told to uninstall certain mobile apps

  • Army has directed all its officers and soldiers to delete their Facebook and Instagram accounts as well as 89 apps from their mobile phones by July 15.
  • Personnel who do not follow the order will face strict action. The outlawed apps include the 59 ones with Chinese links, including TikTok, which were banned by the Union government recently.
  • There have been many cases over the last two-three years where Pakistani agents posing as women have “virtually” honey-trapped Indian military personnel into divulging classified information.

ICMR plans survey to estimate covid-19 spread

  • The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is to begin a new survey to estimate the true prevalence of coronavirus infection.
  • The organisation is yet to make public the details of its first (April) survey in 60 districts, which found that 0.73% of the population may have been exposed to the virus.
  • For such a survey, the government must either decide if the same districts that came under surveillance in the earlier survey are to be reinvestigated or a new set of places (to estimate if the infection has travelled more widely) must be decided.

Cognizant India chief Ramkumar Ramamoorthy resigns

  • He was a member of Cognizant’s global Executive Leadership Team responsible for driving the company’s strategy and operations and has held senior positions in the company including Executive Director, India.
  • He has incubated and nurtured several portfolios at Cognizant, including Cognizant Interactive, market research and intelligence, corporate marketing and communications, and government and corporate affairs.
