India’s cotton textile exports touch $15.29 billion

  • Cotton textile exports, including raw cotton, in 2021-22 were $15.29 billion, according to provisional data available.
  • All cotton textile and clothing products – yarn, fabrics, and madeups – had seen growth. Exports to countries such as Bangladesh, U.S., Portugal and Sri Lanka had seen a significant jump.
  • Yarn exports to China had increased and cotton textile exports to countries such as Egypt and Portugal had also increased. It indicated that Indian exporters were finding new markets.

  • PanditShivkumar Sharma, Indian music composer and santoor player, passed away in Mumbai. He was 84.
  • Sharma gave santoor, once a little known instrument from Jammu and Kashmir, a classical status and used it along with other, more traditional and famous instruments such as sitar and sarod.
  • Shivkumar Sharma composed music for many Hindi films along with flute legend Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia.
