ALFA-X: Japan tests world’s fastest bullet train

  • Japan tested ALFA-X version of its fastest-ever Shinkansen bullet train. It is claimed to be world’s fastest bullet train that can  reach 400 km per hour (249 mph).
  • ALFA-X stands for Advanced Labs for Frontline Activity in Rail Experimentation. I is scheduled to start its service in 2030. Its futuristic design features 10 cars and sleek pointed nose.
  • It is 10 kph faster than China’s Fuxing Hao (current world’s fasted bullet train), which links Beijing and Shanghai and operates at the same top speed.

Singapore reports 1st case of rare monkeypox virus

  • The rare monkey pox virus was detected for the first time in Singapore in Nigerian man. He thought to have infected with this rare virus after eating bushmeat.
  • Monkey pox is rare disease caused by virus that is transmitted from animals, such as rodents and monkeys.  It can be transmitted to humans after consumption of meat of these animals
  • It is usually found in central and western parts of Africa’s tropical rainforest. Its symptoms are lesions, fever, muscle ache and chills.

UNGA’s Ocean Conference 2020 to be held in Lisbon, Portugal

  • United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has announced to host Ocean Conference 2020 in Lisbon, Portugal from June 2 to 6, 2020.
  • Theme of this conference will be “Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: stocktaking, partnerships and solutions”
  • Its objective is to support implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) viz. to conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Desert Storm Rally 2019 held in Rajasthan

  • The 17th edition of Desert Storm Rally 2019 was held in Rajasthan from May 7 to 11, 2019. Desert Storm Rally is India’s most prestigious international motorsport event,
  • 2019 edition of this rally saw the participation of 130 candidates with 34 teams in 3 categories namely Xtreme, Ndure and Moto.
  • Moto category winners: Adrien Metge from TVS Racing. He was followed by CS Santosh of Hero Motorsports and Abdul Wahid Tanveer of TVS Racing.
  • Xtreme category title: It was won by Aabhishek Mishra (co-driver Srikanth Gowda).
  • Ndure Category: It was won by Ankur Chauhan (co-driver Prakash M).

Chhaya Sharma awarded 2019 McCain Institute Award

  • Delhi cadre IPS officer Chhaya Sharma was conferred with 2019 McCain Institute Award for Courage and Leadership.
  • This award is bestowed upon those who have manifested courage on behalf of human rights, humanitarian compassion, justice, freedom, and human dignity.
  • Chhaya Sharma had headed investigation team of the infamous Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case. She hasd guided teams in detection and investigation of sensitive criminal cases and protection of human rights.
  • In 2017, Chhaya has performed crucial role in drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) and Guidelines to Combat Trafficking of Persons in India.
