India evacuates peacekeeping CRPF contingent from Libya

  • India evacuated its peacekeeping forces contingent comprising of 15 CRPF personnel from Tripoli after situation worsened in Libya.
  • Indian Ambassador to Tunisia has concurrent charge of Libya.
  • The military conflict in Libya increased after its self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, launched surprise air strike in an area in Tripoli.
  • While, United Nations backed and internationally recognized government headed by Fayez al-Sarraj vowed a major counteroffensive, this move could probably drag country back into civil war.
  • UN called for a two-hour truce to allow evacuations of civilians and wounded.
  • Since the deposition and killing of long-time ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 uprising, Libya has been torn by violence and political instability.

Graham Reid appointed as chief coach of India men’s hockey team

  • As per Industry rules, every international coach’s contract period is up to an Olympic cycle, but his tenure can be extended till 2022 FIH World Cup depending upon India’s performances leading up to Tokyo Olympics.
  • Reid has played for Australian national team and was part of silver medal winning team at Barcelona Olympics 1992.
  • He has coaching experience, with Australian and Netherlands national teams.

Isaak Hayik, becomes world's oldest soccer player

  • Isaak Hayik of Israeli team Ironi Or Yehuda set a new world record by becoming oldest active player at the age of 73, in a professional soccer match.
  • He broke record after playing as a goalkeeper against Maccabi Ramat Gan.
  • He was officially recognized in Guinness World Record organization, award ceremony.
  • Last record was held by Robert Carmona of Uruguay, in 2015. He played professional match with Uruguay’s Pan de Azucar at age of 53.

WEF MENA 2019 held at Jordan

  • Participants included over 1,000 governments, business and civil society leaders from more than 50 countries.
  • It highlighted long-term responses to encourage economic growth, humanitarian crises, sustainability, health care, energy, water, gender equality, future of jobs and cybersecurity.

India's first-of-its-kind Voter Park opens in Gurugram

  • India’s first voter park was inaugurated at Vikas Sadan building complex in  Gururgram, Haryana.
  • It was inaugrated by Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajeev Ranjan.
  • It is set up to promote awareness among voters, to inspire them to vote in Lok Sabha polls.
  • The voter park would be open from 9 am to 9 pm, will provide important information about voting and provided history of elections to voters.
  • It also has ‘selfie point’ where voters can take selfies with indelible ink mark after casting votes. A song was also launched to make people aware.
