US man with Pig heart dies

  • The first person in the world to get a heart transplant from a genetically-modified pig has died at age of 57.
  • David Bennett, who had terminal heart disease, survived for two months following the surgery in the US.
  • Doctors were granted a special dispensation by the US medical regulator to carry out the procedure, on the basis that Mr Bennett would otherwise have died.
  • He had already been bedridden for six weeks leading up to the surgery, attached to a machine which was keeping him alive.

  • The Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to retain four states while AamAadmi Party is set to expand beyond Delhi.
  • The BJP willbe forming the government in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and also in Goa, where it is just short of majority.
  • The AAP will be forming the government in Punjab by replacing Congress party. This will be the second state where AAP will form the government.

Jhulan Goswami becomes joint highest wicket-taker in women ODI World Cup

  • India’s veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami equalled the tally of most wickets in the ICC Women’s World Cup.
  • Goswami equalled the tally of 39 wickets taken by Lyn Fullston of Australia from 1982 to 1988. She achieved this feat against New Zealand in the ongoing ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2022 at Hamilton.
  • In an illustrious career spanning two decades, Goswami has now 39 wickets to her name across five Women’s Cricket World Cups since 2005.

Endurance ship found below Antarctic ice

  • The Endurance, the lost vessel of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, was found at the weekend at the bottom of the Weddell Sea.
  • The ship was crushed by sea-ice and sank in 1915, forcing Shackleton and his men to make an astonishing escape on foot and in small boats.
  • The project to find the lost ship was mounted by the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust (FMHT), using a South African icebreaker, Agulhas II, and equipped with remotely operated submersibles.

S Sreesanth announces retirement from all forms of cricket

  • India pacer S Sreesanth announced his retirement from all forms of cricket including international and domestic.
  • Sreesanth played 27 Tests and 53 ODIs for India, taking 87 and 75 wickets respectively. He has also taken seven wickets in 10 T20 Internationals.
  • Sreesanth’s life ban for alleged spot-fixing in the 2013 edition of the IPL was reduced to seven years by BCCI Ombudsman DK Jain last year.
