The Supreme Court has ordered the Jammu and Kashmir administration to review all the restrictions pertaining to Internet services in the region.
SC noted that the freedom to use Internet is a fundamental right under Article 19(1)(a) of free speech, and trade and commerce through Internet is protected under Article 19(1)(g).
The court also said restrictive orders under Section 144 of CrPC was not a tool to repress legitimate expressions of citizens.
The clamp-down followed the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution and the bifurcation of the erstwhile State into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition by Tata Sons Private Ltd (TSPL) challenging the NCLAT decision restoring Cyrus Mistry as executive chairman of the Tata Group.
TSPL has challenged the December 18 decision of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) that gave a big relief to Cyrus Investment Pvt Ltd and Mistry, restoring him as the executive chairman of TSPL.
Tatas submitted the verdict by the NCLAT “undermined corporate democracy” and the “rights” of its board of directors.
