Ravi Shastri ends his coaching tenure with Indian Men’s Cricket team

  • Ravi Shastri ended his four and half years tenure as the head coach of Indian Men’s Cricket team after end of India’s campaign at the T20 World Cup.
  • Since his appointment in 2017 and the extension of his contract two years later, Shastri has overseen back-to-back Test series wins in Australia and his side will return to England with a 2-1 lead in July 2022.
  • Former captain Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team replacing Ravi Shastri.

Regional meeting of NSAs on Afghanistan to be held in New Delhi

  • India will be hosting a national security advisor (NSA) level regional conference in New Delhi on Afghanistan, on November 10,.
  • Invitations have also been extended to China and Pakistan too, and their formal responses are awaited. However, Pakistan has indicated through the media that it will not attend.
  • The high-level participation reflects the widespread and growing concern of regional countries about situation in Afghanistan and their desire to consult and coordinate with each other.

Mumbai Karnataka region renamed as Kittur Karnataka

  • The Karnataka Cabinet decided to rechristen the Mumbai-Karnataka region consisting of seven districts as ‘Kittur Karnataka.
  • The name Kittur comes after a historical taluk in Belagavi district in north Karnataka that was ruled by Rani Chennamma (1778-1829). Kittur Rani Chennamma had fought against the British for freedom about 40 years before Jhansi Rani Laxmibai.
  • In 2019, the previous B S Yediyurappa-led BJP government had renamed the Hyderabad-Karnataka region as Kalyana Karnataka.

Srinagar included in UNESCO creative City list

  • Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar city made it to the prestigious list of UNESCO creative cities network for 2021, for craft and folk art.
  • This was announced by UNESCO on its official website wherein 49 cities have joined the elite list.
  • The centre had recommended the nomination of Gwalior as creative city of music and Srinagar for creative city of craft and folk arts to UNESCO on 29 June.

SpaceX crew return from International Space Station

  • Four astronauts who arrived at the International Space Station in April for a long-duration science mission began their return voyage to Earth.
  • The Dragon vehicle, dubbed Endeavour, undocked from the space station and began its departure with a 90-minute fly-around of the space station.
  • If all goes smoothly, Endeavour was scheduled to parachute into the Gulf of Mexico off the Florida coast
