Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis resigns

  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis resigned from the post ahead of the end of the current assembly’s tenure.
  • The resignation takes Maharashtra a step closer to the possibility of President’s rule since the BJP and Shiv Sena have not been able to form the government.
  • The decision on government formation will be on governor's shoulders with him having the power to invite any leader to form the government.

Rohit Sharma becomes highest capped Indian T20 international player

  • Among men, Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik is the only other cricketer to have played 100 matches in the shortest format (111).

Amazon top executive Steve Kessel quits

  • E-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc's long-serving executive Steve Kessel will leave the company after 20 years.
  • Kessel, a senior vice president who has worked on Amazon's "Kindle" and brick-and-mortar store "Amazon Go", would be focusing on community service and not-for-profit work after parting ways with the company
  • Dave Clark who is responsible for the company's global supply chain and logistics operation will assume Kessel's roles.

India to host 2023 hockey World Cup

  • The Executive Board of the International Hockey Federation  announced that India would be hosting the Men's Hockey World Cup in 2023.
  • Spain and Netherlands have been confirmed as the co-hosts for the 2022 FIH Hockey Women's World Cup.
  • The Men's Hockey World Cup would be played from January 13-29, 2023 while the Women's World Cup would be played from July 1-17, 2022.
  • The venues for the tournaments will be announced by the host nations. India will automatically qualify for the event being the host.

Dhrupad maestro Ramakant Gundecha passes away

  • Dhrupad maestro Ramakant Gundecha, the younger of the Gundecha brothers duo, passed away in Bhopal.
  • The Gundecha brothers, founders of Bhopal's Gurukul Drupad Sansthan, are known for reviving and performing the dhrupad, one of the oldest forms of Hindustani music.
  • The brothers were awarded the Padma Shri together in 2012 and alsothe Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 2017.
