IAF's 17 squadron consisting of Rafale aircrafts resurrected

  • The Indian Air Force is expected to resurrect its 'Golden Arrows' 17 Squadron which will be the first unit to fly the multi-role Rafale fighter jets.
  • The squadron, which operated from Bhatinda air base, was disbanded in 2016 after the IAF started gradual phasing out old Russian-origin Mig 21 jets.
  • The second squadron of Rafale will be stationed at Hasimara base in West Bengal.

Journalist Ravish Kumar receives Magsaysay award

Chinese telescope detects strange signals from Deep space

  • Chinese astronomers have detected repeated fast radio bursts (FRB) of mysterious signals believed to be from a source about 3 billion light-years from the Earth, with the largest and most sensitive radio telescope ever built.
  • Scientists detected the signals with the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) at the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC).
  • FRBs are the brightest bursts known in the universe. They are called "fast" because these blips are very short.

Rajiv Kumar appointment Microsoft managing director

  • Microsoft has announced appointment of Rajiv Kumar as the managing director of Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt Ltd (MIRPL). At present he is the corporate vice-president of Microsoft's Experiences and Devices (E+D) Group.
  • Among his recent key contributions to Microsoft are Kaizala , an enterprise productivity chat app and bootstrapping the campus hiring programme in India.
