Gairsain declared Uttarakhand’s summer capital

  • Gairsain in Chamoli district was declared as the summer capital of Uttarakhand. A notification in this regard was issued after Governor Baby Rani Maurya gaveher assent to the move.
  • This fulfills Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s announcement about Gairsain in the Vidhan Sabha and a major promise made by the party in its manifesto for the 2017 Assembly polls.
  • Work on creating an e-Assembly at Gairsain is underway so that files need not be taken there and sessions are conducted in a paperless way.

Operation Samudra Setu

  • Under its next phase, the Indian Navy launched Operation Samudra Setu to repatriate Indian citizens from Iran's Bandar Abbas port. The navy ship Shardul will deboard the Indians at the Porbandar port in Gujarat.
  • Naval ships Jalashwa and Magar have already evacuated 2874 Indians from the Maldives and Sri Lanka to ports of Kochi and Tuticorin.
  • Earlier last month, the Indian Navy had said that three Naval warships have sailed out to bring back Indian citizens from Maldives and United Arab Emirates (UAE) who are stranded due to Coronavirus pandemic under the first phase of the operation.

Black hole could be like hologram

  • According to new research, black holes could be like a hologram, where all the information is amassed in a two-dimensional surface able to reproduce a three-dimensional image.
  • In this way, these cosmic bodies, as affirmed by quantum theories, could be incredibly complex and concentrate an enormous amount of information inside themselves.
  • To study black holes, the researchers used an idea almost 30 years old, called the “holographic principle”.The principle proposes that the behavior of gravity in a given region of space can alternatively be described in terms of a different system, which lives only along the edge of that region and therefore in one less dimension.

China launches four satellites in two days

  • China blasted off two flights at the same time NASA launched its Demo-2 mission toward the International Space Station on May 30.
  • Beijing first launched two new technology-demonstrating satellites. The satellites rose successfully into space aboard a Long March-11 rocket.
  • one of the satellites was Gaofen-9, which is a civilian remote sensing satellite that can take photographs with a resolution of roughly 3.3 feet (1 meter).It will be used in land surveys, urban planning, road network design and crop yield estimates, as well as disaster relief," Xinhua stated.
  • The other satellite is HEAD-4. It is designed to support the Internet of Things (IoT), which allows connected devices to send and receive information from orbit.

New Zealand eliminates COVID-19

  • New Zealand has announced that it has eliminated COVID-19 disease after health officials said the last known infected person had recovered.
  • It has been 17 days since the last new case was reported in New Zealand, during which time an additional 40,000 people have been tested, and this also marked the first time since February when there has been no active cases.
  • Even as New Zealand is emerging from the pandemic, big economies such as Brazil, Britain, India and the United States are still seeing daily spike in cases.
