  • It is usually harmless to plants as it only affects diseased cells, which are a tiny portion of entire plant.
  • Its discovery provides clue about cell death control and immunity for plants.
  • More research on it can help to produce new generation of more environmentally friendly and disease-resistant crops that would use fewer pesticides.
  • Scientists from Tsinghua University and Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Genetics and Development Biology did the research.

  • JAXA is now analyzing data and examining if or how impactor made a crater.
  • Asteroid Ryugu is named after an undersea palace in a Japanese folktale, and is about 300 million kilometers (180 million miles) from Earth.
  • In February 2019, Hayabusa2 successfully touched down on a tiny flat surface on boulder-rich asteroid, and also collected some surface dust and small debris.
