  • Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat submitted his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya just days before his government's fourth anniversary on 17 March.
  • Critics have accused Rawat of failing to communicate with them or take everyone along. The low profile politician also upset many in his party with his style of functioning.
  • State minister Dhan Singh Rawat is the frontrunner for the post. He is currently an MLA from Srinagar constituency.

Tashnuva Anan becomes Bangladesh’s first transgender news anchor

  • Tashnuva Anan Shishir is all set to become Bangladesh's first transgender news anchor. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Shishir will be seen presenting a regular news bulletin on satellite television channel Boishakhi Television.
  • The channel came up with this maiden initiative to not only mark International Women's Day on March 8 but also in celebration of the country's 50 years of independence on March 26.
  • Tashnuva Anan Shishir is a renowned model and social worker. She has also been into acting for a long time. Shishir began her acting career in 2007 with the theatre troupe Natua.
  • As a social worker, Shishir has volunteered for organizations including Sangat - A Feminist Network, Roopban, Oboyob, and Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC).

PM Modi inaugurates Maitri Setu between India and Bangladesh

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 'Maitri Setu' between India and Bangladesh, a bridge built over the Feni river.
  • The construction was taken up by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd at a project cost of ? 133 crore.
  • The 1.9 km long bridge joins Sabroom in India with Ramgarhll in Bangladesh. It will help ease the movement of goods and passengers between the two countries, provide new market opportunities for products of North-East states and assist seamless movement of passengers to and from India and Bangladesh.

Some slugs can regenerate their whole body

  • Scientists have discovered that sea slugs can regrow hearts and whole new bodies. The research could eventually help scientists better understand and tackle regeneration of human tissue.
  • Other creatures can also cast off body parts when needed, like when some lizards drop their tails to get away from a predator. This biological phenomenon is called autotomy.
  • Scientists had thought that sea slug species couldn't survive without a heart to pump blood and nutrients to the brain.
  • When these sea slugs eat a certain type of algae they can photosynthesize their food from sunlight and oxygen, just like a plant, for about 10 days.

SC dismisses plea against holding Bengal elections in 8 phases

  • The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea to “prohibit” the conduct of Assembly election in West Bengal in eight phases and direct a CBI probe into the use of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as a rallying slogan in the run-up to the polls.
  • The petitioner had also made the Election Commission of India, the Union of India and the CBI respondents in the petition.
  • The petitioner had asked political parties that used religious slogans should be debarred from participating in “any election in the country”.
