Cabbage compund fights against fatty liver disease

  • A natural compound found in cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, kale, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts can help control non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), new research has found.
  • The researchsuggests that this natural compound called indole may lead to new treatments or preventive measures for fatty liver disease.
  • NAFLD occurs when the liver becomes "marbled" with fat, sometimes due to unhealthy nutrition, such as excessive intake of saturated fats.
  • If not properly addressed, this condition can lead to life-threatening liver disease, including cirrhosis or liver cancer

Mahindra Group’s profit percentage witnesses sharp decline

  • Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has reported 73% decline in consolidated net profit at ?380 crore for December quarter 2019 due to sluggish vehicle sales.
  • The company had posted a profit after tax (PAT) of ?1,396 crore for the same quarter last fiscal.
  • The company hopes that the trend is reversed in the next quarter due to better demands for vehicles, both commercial and passenger.

Facebook’s twitter account hacked

  • Facebook's Twitter account was hacked, apparently by a Saudi-based group that has been active in exposing vulnerabilities among high-profile social media users.
  • OurMine is usually described as a group of hackers but it said its security services are "for profit." Its social media takeovers have received widespread attention.
  • Earlier on Jan. 27, before the Super Bowl, OurMine claimed responsibility for hijacking the social media accounts of the National Football League and several of its teams.

Former Pakistani cricketer Jamshed jailed for match fixing

  • Former Pakistan batsman Nasir Jamshedwas jailed for 17 months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to bribe fellow cricketers as part of a Twenty20 spot-fixing scheme.
  • Jamshed, has previously played Test, one-day and Twenty20 international cricket for Pakistan.
  • It is alleged that the opening batsman in the Twenty20 tournaments had agreed to not score runs from the first two balls of an over in return for a share of an overall £30,000 ($39,000, 35,000-euro) fee.

Andhra Pradesh CM inaugurates first Disha police station

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy launched the first Disha Police Station in the State in Rajamahendravaram.
  • Disha Police Stations are model stations aimed at rendering speedy justice for female victims of Sexual assault (rape), harassment and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
  • The new police station will have a counsellor, mobile kits to collect medical and scientific evidence, and care takers to help the victims who come to the station.
