  • As a result obesity and overweight becomes a compulsion. One can be prone to diabetes, heart diseases, hypertension and even cancer due to ill-eating habits.

Iran attacks two US bases in Iraq

  • Iranian state television said that at least 80 Americans were killed in attacks involving 15 missiles launched on U.S. targets in Iraq.
  • Iraq said that a total of 22 missiles targeted coalition bases, with 17 striking the Al-Asad airbase in Anbar province. Five missiles hit a base in Erbil province in northern Iraq, 
  • The killing of Soleimani  and strikes by Tehran came as tensions have been rising steadily across the Mideast after Trump's decision to unilaterally. withdraw America from Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers.

Artist Akbar Padamsee passes away

  • Padma Bhushan awardee and celebrated artist Akbar Padamsee passed away in Coimbatore. He was 91.
  • Best known for his paintings, Akbar Padamsee was also a photographer, sculptor, filmmaker, engraver and lithographer. His paintings have found a place of prominence in eminent galleries in India and around the world.
  • Apart from Padma Bhushan in 2010 he was also awarded Fellowships by the Lalit Kala Akademi and the JD Rockefeller Foundation apart from recognition by several global art bodies.

Solar Rail section between Nandyal- Yerraguntla

  • South Central Railway (SCR)’s Nandyal – Yerraguntla section in Guntakal Division became the first ‘solar section’ where all the stations on the section have been provided with solar panels at a stretch to tap the renewable energy.
  • While solar panels have been installed at the stations, service buildings, level crossing gates etc., across the zone, the concept of all stations of a particular section being provided with solar panels at one stretch to tap the natural energy is a first such initiative.
  • The expected savings in terms of revenue is around ?5 lakh per annum and carbon footprint reduction of 49 metric tonnes per annum as contribution towards green environs.

  • Italy World Cup winner Daniele De Rossi announced his retirement aged 36 ending an 18-year career.
  • De Rossi has left Argentine side Boca Juniors before which he spent his entire career at Serie A club Roma.
  • De Rossi is Italy's fourth most-capped player with 117 caps and Francesco Totti is the only player to have made more appearances for Roma than him.
