Russian movie crew goes to space to shoot first movie in space

  • A Russian crew of two cosmonauts, a movie director and an actress blasted off for the International Space Station (ISS) to shoot the first movie in space. The movie is titled ' the Challenge'.
  • The Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft is set to dock at the station, which orbits Earth at an altitude of around 220 miles (354 km).
  • The Russian mission is designed to get in first before a Hollywood project announced earlier this year by actor Tom Cruise together with NASA and SpaceX.
  • Russia and the United States have competed fiercely to reach various space exploration milestones:
  • Russia launched the first satellite and put the first man and woman in space, but NASA beat it to the Moon landing.

Moody upgrades India outlook

  • Rating agency Moody’s Investors Service has upgraded India’s sovereign rating outlook to ‘stable’ from ‘negative’ citing an ebbing of the risks from COVID-19 and the negative feedback between the real economy and financial system.
  • It retained India’s rating at Baa3, reflecting the lowest investment grade rating. It expects 2021-22 to record 9.3% growth in GDP, followed by 7.9% next year.
  • In June 2020, Moody’s had downgraded India’s sovereign rating to Baa3 from Baa2 with a negative outlook.
  • Higher capital cushions and greater liquidity suggests banks and non-bank financial institutions pose much lesser risk to the sovereign than Moody’s previously anticipated.

Indian Hockey team withdraws from Commonwealth Games

  • India has withdrawn its hockey teams from next year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham citing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and a short turnaround before the Asian Games in China.
  • The decision came a day after England withdrew from the men’s hockey Junior World Cup, which will be held in the Indian city of Bhubaneswar from Nov. 24-Dec. 5.
  • India and Britain have also been involved in a row over quarantine measures for international arrivals.

Ramayan actor Arvind Trivedi passes away

  • Veteran actor Arvind Trivedi, best known for playing Raavan on the popular 1986 mythological show Ramayan, passed away. He was in his early 80s.
  • Arvind Trivedi also served as the chief of the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) from 2002-2003.
  • Arvind Trivedi acted in nearly 300 Hindi and Gujarati movies and found immense popularity on the RamanandSagar's 1986 TV series Ramayan.
  • The actor’s other works, including TV series VikramAurBetaal (1985) and the 1998 Gujarati feature film Desh Re Joya Dada PardeshJoya, were also huge hits.
  • Besides his acting career, in 1991, Arvind Trivedi was elected as a Member of Parliament from Sabarkatha constituency.

Nobel prize in Physics

  • The Nobel Prize for physics has been awarded to scientists from Japan, Germany and Italy.
  • Syukuro Manabe (90) and Klaus Hasselmann (89) were cited for their work in “the physical modeling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming”.
  • The second half of the prize was awarded to Giorgio Parisi (73) for “the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales.”
