Vijay Kumar Chopra and Vineet Jain elected PTI chairman and vice chairman

  • Vijay Kumar Chopra, Chief Editor of the Punjab Kesari Group of newspapers and Vineet Jain, Managing Director of Bennett, Coleman and Company Limited(BCCL), the publisher of Times of India, were unanimously elected Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively of Press Trust of India (PTI).
  • Chopra succeeds N Ravi, Publisher and former Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu. Vineet Jain has previously been chairman of PTI in 2010.

Former Pakistani Spin great Abdul Qadir dies

  • Pakistan's master leg-spinner Abdul Qadir died in Lahore after suffering from a massive cardiac arrest.
  • Qadir, who played in 67 Tests and 104 ODIs has a total 368 wickets in his international career.
  • Qadir has worked as the chief selector of Pakistani cricket in 2009. His biggest achievement has been to keep the art of spin bowling alive.

Lasith Malinga becomes first cricketer to claim 100 T20I wickets

  • Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga created a record after becoming the first bowler in Twenty20 internationals to claim 100 wickets.
  • Malinga surpassed Pakistani spinner Shahid Afridi's record of 97 T20I wickets to create the record.
  • Lasith Malinga is active in only T20 Internationals format after retiring from Tests and One Day Internationals.

IAS officer Sasikant Senthil resigns

  • Sasikanth Senthil, a 2009 batch Karnataka cadre IAS officer and Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada districthas resigned from his position as an IAS officer.
  • Mr Senthil has served in various positions including Assistant Commissioner of Ballari district and Deputy Commissioner of Chitradurga district.
  • He is the second officer to resign after AGMUT cadre IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan, who had resigned earlier this month.

Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe dies

  • Former Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe died at the age of 95 in Singapore.
  • Mugabe, ruled Zimbabwe for more than three decades and was ousted from power in a military coup in 2017.
  • Mugabe was regarded as an African liberation hero and champion of racial reconciliation.
  • Mugabe has also been blamed for oppressing his political adversaries and also mass genocides of his opposing citizens.
