Hip-hop musician Kanye West announced that he would run for President of the United States this year. He would be pitted against incumbent President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
West has made similar announcements before. He had announced at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards that he would run for office in 2020. Last year again he said he would run for the presidency in 2024.
While there is no clear information on whether West has filed campaign papers, he would need to run on a third-party platform or as an independent if he is to follow through on his announcement. The deadline to run as an independent has not yet passed in many States.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued orders for blocking 40 websites of the U.S.-based Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), which has been banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The ban orders came on recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The outfit, which was banned by the MHA about a year ago, has been running an online campaign for recruiting supporters.
The move comes after the government designated nine more individuals as “terrorists” under the anti-terror law for their links to various separatist Khalistani groups.
Covaxin, the first possible vaccine against COVID-19, will be tested on a team of around 200 healthy volunteers in and around Belagavi.
The clinical trials will be conducted by doctors and staff members of Jeevan Rekha, a multi-specialty hospital, monitored by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Bharat Biotech International Ltd., the private company that has developed the chemical molecule.
While a vaccine trial usually takes around three months, the COVID-19 vaccine trial was being put on the fast track. The ICMR has announced that the drug could be recommended for general usage after the second week of August.
