Financial capital of India Mumbai was ranked first in ‘Traffic Index-2018’ by location technology specialist TomTom with a congestion level of 65%.
- Mumbai was ranked first for second consecutive year. It was followed by Bogota (63%), Lima (58%) and Moscow (56%). New Delhi ranked fourth with congestion of 58%.
- This index had analyzed traffic congestion in more 403 cities in 56 countries across six continents. It defined congestion as the extra time added to road travel when traffic doesn’t flow freely.
- It has found that commuters in Mumbai spent the most time on the road last year. Mumbai’s peak hours are between 8 am and 10 am which resulted in congestion of 80%. It is 102% between 5 pm and 8 pm,
