Gujarat tops in fish production in the country

  • Gujarat is largest fish producer in the country. It has topped with annual fish production of 7.8 lakh tonnes, followed by Tamil Nadu (7.02 lakh tonnes) and Kerala (6.43 lakh tonnes).
  • According to Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) report, the Fish production for the year 2018 was estimated at 3.49 million tonnes at the all India level.  

Rajnath Singh to chair Committee on Parliamentary Affairs

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will chair Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs in second term of the NDA government.
  • All important decisions of Government on all the parliament matters are taken by Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
  • He is also member of Cabinet Committee on Security and Cabinet Committee on Employment and Skill Development.  He is also part of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs.
  • Besides, he is also member o Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

Mumbai ranked first Traffic Index 2018

  • Financial capital of India Mumbai was ranked first in ‘Traffic Index-2018’ by location technology specialist TomTom with a congestion level of 65%.

  • Mumbai was ranked first for second consecutive year. It was followed by Bogota (63%), Lima (58%) and Moscow (56%). New Delhi ranked fourth with congestion of 58%.
  • This index had analyzed traffic congestion in more 403 cities in 56 countries across six continents.  It defined congestion as the extra time added to road travel when traffic doesn’t flow freely.
  • It has found that commuters in Mumbai spent the most time on the road last year. Mumbai’s peak hours are between 8 am and 10 am which resulted in congestion of 80%. It is 102% between 5 pm and 8 pm,

Muhammad Bande elected as President of 74th UNGA session

  • Nigeria’s Ambassador to United Nations Tijjani Muhammad-Bande was elected as President of the 74th session UN General Assembly (UNGA).
  • He will succeed Maria Fernanda Espinosa. The next UN General Assembly session will commence in September 2019.
  • He was elected in accordance of UNGA rule which states that President of the 74th session of UNGA should be elected from among African States.
