Australian fashion designer Carla Zampatti dies

  • Australian fashion icon Carla Zampatti, known for elegant designs and efforts to empower women over more than half a century, has passed away aged 78 after a fall in Sydney.
  • In the early 1970s Zampatti became one of the first designers to introduce swimwear into her collections in then socially conservative Australia.
  • Zampatti was born in Italy in 1942 and emigrated to Australia in 1950. She produced her first small fashion collection in 1965 before setting up Carla Zampatti Pty Ltd five years later.

Samajwadi party founder member Bhagwati Singh passes away

  • Founder member of the Samajwadi Party and former UP minister Bhagwati Singh passed away at his residence in Lucknow. He was 89.
  • A SP member of the Rajya Sabha from July 2004 to 2010, Bhagwati Singh joined the socialist movement following inspiration from the socialist ideologue Ram Manohar Lohia.
  • The last rites of Singh will not be done as he had pledged to donate his body to the King George Medical University.

Veteran actress Shashikala Sehgal passes away

  • Veteran actor Shashikala, best known for her supporting roles in 1960s-70s films passed away at the age of 88.
  • She appeared in supporting roles in classics like Gumrah (1963), Waqt (1965), Anupama (1966) and Phool Aur Patthar (1966) and returned to playing a vamp in the Shammi Kapoor-Sadhana-starrer Chhote Sarkar (1974).
  • Shashikala switched to television in 2000s and went on to play pivotal parts in serials Apnaapan, Dil Deke Dekho and Son Pari. She received the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award, in 2007 for her contribution to Indian cinema.

Virat Kohli’s foundation to set up animal shelters in Mumbai

  • India captain Virat Kohli's foundation will set up two 'animal shelters' on the outskirts of Mumbai as a part of its animal welfare project.
  • The Virat Kohli Foundation has collaborated with Vivaldis Animal Health and Awaaz, Voice of Stray Animals, a Mumbai-based NGO for the purpose.
  • The shelter in Malad will be a temporary rehabilitation centre. The centre in Boisar will be a permanent shelter, which will keep animals who are blind/ paralysed.

Facebook data of more than 500 million leaked online

  • Data affecting more than 500 million Facebook users that was originally leaked in 2019, including email addresses and phone numbers, has been posted on an online hackers forum.
  • Some of the data appeared to be current and some of the leaked phone numbers still belong to the owners of Facebook accounts.
  • Facebook has been grappling with data security issues for years. In 2018, the social media giant disabled a feature that allowed users to search for one another via phone number.
