LIC allows revival of lapsed policy of over 2 years

  • LIC has now allowed policyholders to revive their policies that have lapsed more than two years.
  • LIC approached IRDAI and extended the benefit of longer revival period to even those policyholders who bought policies post January 1, 2014.
  • Earlier all policies taken after January 1, 2014 could not be revived if they remained in lapsed condition for a period exceeding two years.

New species of tree frog discovered

  • Six herpetologists have recorded a new species of tree frog that had eluded the world of science despite thriving in residential areas.
  • The new species has been named Brown Blotched Bengal Tree Frog (Polypedates bengalensis).
  • The name is derived from a series of six to nine dark brown blotches that extend laterally from behind the frog’s eye to the vent. The frog’s body colour is yellowish-brown to greenish-brown.
  • Specimens of this frog were not discovered from deep jungles but from residential areas in two districts of West Bengal.

Real Kashmir FC documentary wins 'BAFTA- Scotland' award

  • Real Kashmir FC's BBC documentary has won the 'Single Documentary' category at the British Academy Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) or BAFTA Film Awards Scotland.
  • The football club from Kashmir has been breaking barriers ever since it was promoted to the top division I-League after becoming the champions of I-League second division in the 2017-18 season.
  • The BBC documentary had been nominated at BAFTA Scotland in two categories - 'Director-Factual' and 'Single Documentary'.

Odd-Even rule starts in Delhi

  • The third edition of odd-even started on 4th November as the pollution levels peaked to a three-year high in the national capital.
  • Introduced in 2016, the odd-even scheme is a car rationing system. Under the scheme, only vehicles with even registration numbers will be allowed on even dates and odd registration number vehicles on odd dates.
  • Twenty-nine categories of vehicles, including those of President, Prime Minister, emergency and enforcement vehicles, cars carrying school children in uniform have been exempted from the odd-even scheme.

French Nazi resistance hero dies

  • Yvette Lundy, a well-known member of the French Resistance and a Nazi concentration camp survivor, has died at the age of 103.
  • Lundy supplied fake papers to Jewish families, men fleeing forced labour, and escaped prisoners of war during the Nazi occupation of France.
  • In 2017, she was made a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, one of the highest civilian decorations in France.
