MP Cabinet increases reservation for OBCs to 27%

  • Madhya Pradesh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Kamal Nath has passed resolution to increase percentage of reservation quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC) from existing 14% to 27%.
  • With this MP became only state in the country to have a 27% quota for OBCs. The move will lead to reservation in the state increasing to 63%, breaching Supreme Court-mandated 50% cap.

ONGC becomes India's most profitable PSU

  • Oil and gas producer Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) became India's most profitable Public Sector Undertaking (PSU),
  • It has overtaken Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and regained the title which it had lost to IOC in the previous two financial years.
  • The net profit of ONGC hiked up 34% in its 2018-19 fiscal to Rs. 26,716 crore compared to IOC's Rs.17,274 crore net profit during the same period.
  • Note: Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries is India’s biggest firm in terms of revenue, profit and market capitalisation.  It has turnover of Rs 6.23 lakh crore.

VP Sivakolundhu elected as speaker of Puducherry Assembly

  • Deputy Speaker VP Sivakolundhu was elected as new Speaker of Puducherry Assembly. He was the sole contender for the Speaker's post.
  • The post of speaker had fallen vacant after Congress' V Vaithilingam stepped down to contest Lok Sabha election from the lone Union Territory seat of Puducherry.
  • V Vaithilingam had won this elected with a margin of 1,96,802 votes against his nearest rival K Narayanasamy of All India NR Congress.

AAI ink agreement with Boeing to improve airspace utilization

  • Airports Authority of India (AAI) has signed technical assistance agreement with aerospace major Boeing.
  • The agreement aims at developing air traffic management roadmap which will improve airspace utilization and help maintain efficient aircraft operations.
  • AAI will use guidance of Boeing in the modernization of the Indian National Airspace System (NAS).
  • It will be undertaken with a grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

Tripura to host 10th National Science Film Festival of India

  • The 10th National Science Film Festival of India (NSFFI) will be organized in Tripura in January and February 2020.  
  • This will be for second time, it will be held in North Easte after Guwahati (Assam) had organized it.
  • NSFFI is organised by Vigyan Prasar. It was held for first time in 2011 in Chennai.
  • It was then organized by Indian Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with Jahangirabad Media Institute as a part of the Indian Science Congress 2011.
  • Since then it has been held annually has  covered almost all regions of the country including Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata, Bangalore, Lucknow, Mumbai, Guwahati and Mohali.
