Sony and Honda to form new company to develop electric vehicles

  • Japan’s manufacturing giants Honda Motor Co Ltd and Sony Group Corp said they have agreed to join hands to develop and sell battery electric vehicles.
  • The two companies would form a joint venture to develop and sell the electric vehicles this year and aim to begin selling the first model in 2025.
  • Honda will be responsible for manufacturing the first model, while Sony will develop the mobility service platform.

YouTube contributed ?6,800 crore to Indian economy

  • The creator ecosystem at YouTube contributed an estimated ?6,800 crore to the Indian GDP and generated more than 6.83 lakh full-time equivalent jobs in India in 2020.
  • The study by Oxford Economics combines YouTube-driven advertising revenues, with other related revenues, such as non-advertising revenues and off-platform revenues
  • Apart from revenue generated from the platform alone, the creator’s presence can allow them to have a global reach and help them explore multiple revenue streams via brand partnerships, live performances etc.

Australian cricketing legend Rodney Marsh passes away

  • Australian cricket legend Rodney Marsh passed away after suffering a heart attack at a charity event. He was 74.
  • He also played 92 one-day internationals for Australia before retiring from top-flight cricket in February 1984. He was the first Australian wicketkeeper to score a century in test cricket, and and finished his career with three.
  • He later led the national cricket academies in Australia and in England and was the inaugural head of the International Cricket Council’s world coaching academy in Dubai.

Meghalaya withdraws general consent to CBI

  • Meghalaya has become the ninth state in the country to withdraw general consent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
  • The central probe agency comes under the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act which requires states to give the agency a general consent to act.
  • The move means the CBI will now require permission of the Meghalaya government to conduct any future investigation in the state.

Russia gets control of Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

  • Europe’s largest nuclear plant Zaporizhzhia is on fire after Russia attacked the power station in the southern Ukrainian city of Enerhodar.
  • Elevated levels of radiation are being detected near the site of the nuclear plant, which provides about 25% of the country’s power generation.
  • Situated in the southeast of the country, the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant houses six of Ukraine’s 15 operational nuclear power reactors.
