With the lockdown sending lakhs of migrant labourers back to their villages, over 2.19 crore households utilised the rural job guarantee scheme in May, which is the highest for the month in the last eight years.
On an average, about 2.5 crore persons were offered jobs daily in May as against about 1.45 crore in the same month last year. For the last 10 days, on an average, over 3 crore persons were offered jobs daily.
Uttar Pradesh reported the highest increase of 21.88 lakh (33.22 lakh in May 2020 against 11.34 lakh in May 2019). The state was followed by West Bengal (9.91 lakh), Chhattisgarh (7.14 lakh), Madhya Pradesh (4.97 lakh) and Odisha (3.11 lakh).
Scientists at multiple CSIR laboratories have identified a coronavirus type that maybe the second most prevalent in India and may comprise 3.5% of the genomes globally.
The most dominant coronavirus clade in India is the A2a and of 213 genomes analysed by the group, 62% of them were A2a.
The newly identified virus, named A3i, comprised 41% of those analysed. With the new clade, there are 11 SARS-CoV-2 types identified globally with at least six of them identified in India.
Such classifications are useful in establishing whether certain strains are particularly virulent, spread more easily, how they are likely to evolve over time and whether some could be less vulnerable to certain kinds of vaccines.
Google has been sued for illegally invading the privacy of millions of users by pervasively tracking their internet use through browsers set in “private” mode.
The lawsuit seeks at least $5 billion, accusing the company of surreptitiously collecting information about what people view online and where they browse, despite their using what Google calls Incognito mode.
The complaint said the proposed class likely includes ”millions” of Google users who since June 1, 2016 browsed the internet in “private” mode. It seeks at least $5,000 of damages per user for violations of federal wiretapping and California privacy laws.
US President Donald Trump has formally invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the G7 summit to be held in the US later this year.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), PM Modi has accepted the invitation saying that India would be "happy" to work with the US to ensure "success" of the summit.
The development comes days after the US president described the G7 group of industrialized countries as “very outdated" and postponed the summit to September. Trump also said that he would like to include India, Russia, South Korea, and Australia in the meeting.
Former mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation and first-time councillor Adesh Kumar Gupta replaced Manoj Tiwari as the Delhi BJP chief.
Manoj Tiwari was appointed as Delhi BJP president in 2016 replacing Satish Upadhyay. Tiwari had offered to quit after the BJP lost to the Aam Aadmi Party in the Delhi assembly polls and his term was also over.
The BJP also announced changes in other states -- Vishnu Deo Sai has been appointed chief in Chhattisgarh and S Tikendra Singh in Manipur.
