Nayib Bukele elected as President of El Salvador

Nayib Bukele (37) was elected as new president of El Salvador. His presidency breaks three decades of bipartisanship between conservative Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA) and outgoing Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN).

He was born on July 24, 1981, in San Salvador. Hs is former mayor of El Salvador’s capital Bukele. He had made his political debut in 2012 as small-town mayor with now-ruling FMLN (Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front). 

Europe's highest volcano Mount Etna erupts

  • Europe's Highest Volcano and one of the world’s most active volcanoes Mount Etnaa erupted recently spitting molten lava high into the sky.
  • It is located on the east coast of Sicily, Italy. It was its first eruption in 2019 and for last time it had erupted on 24 December 2018.
  • It is active stratovolcano (or composite volcano). It is located above convergent plate margin, which is betweeAfrican Plate and the Eurasian Plate.
  • It has elevation of 3,326 m. It is highest peak in Italy and located south of Alps. It has been designated World Heritage Site in 2013.

Telangana Government enhanced Rythu Bandhu scheme

  • Telangana Government has enhanced Rythu Bandhu scheme from Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 per acre.
  • It has decided to release funds in the view of ensuing Kharif season by releasing Rs 6,900 crore.
  • Rythu Bandhu scheme: It is direct farmer investment support scheme aimed support farmers by providing input investments for two crops a year. It was first scheme launched in India in February 2018
  • Under it, state government used to providing 58.33 lakh farmers, Rs.4 000 per acre per season to support the farm investment, twice a year, for rabi and kharif seasons.

Yoga Mahotsava held in New Delhi

  • Two-day Yoga Mahotsava, was organized in New Delhi. It was inaugurated by the Vice-Chairman, NITI AYOG Rajeev Kumar.
  • It was curtain raiser event for International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2019. It was organized by Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under Ministry of AYUSH.
  • It was aimed at sensitizing masses for the celebration of IDY 2019. On this occasion, Yoga Locator app was launched.

Delhi government plans free rides for women in metro and buses

  • Delhi government has announced to subsidize travel in public transport for women commuters in the national Capital.
  • This decision will allow women to travel for free on metro trains and State-run buses from August-September 2019.
  • This decision aims to encourage women to use of public transport, make it safer and to promote the participation of more women in the city’s workforce.
  • This decision will cost Delhi Government around Rs.700 to Rs.800 crore and it requires no clearance from the Central Government.
