Roger Federer wins his career's 100th title

  • Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer (35) registered his career's 100th title after winning Halle Open in Germany. He is overall 10th tennis player to reachlandmark of 100 career titles
  • The victory was Federer's 16th grass court and 92nd singles title. It was his fourth this year, after wins at Australian Open, Indian Wells and Miami Open.
  • His achievements include 92 singles titles, 8 double titles, 18 Grand slam wins and 12 most titles in a year (2005, 2006).

Macky Sall elected as President of Senegal

  • Macky Sall was as President of Senegal for second term. In recently held elections, he emerged victorious after gaining 58.27% of votes casted. He was elected as president in 2012 for the first time.
  • He is known for enhancing infrastructure of the African country.  He is also known as moderniser who has helped to boost economic growth in the country.
  • Senegal is a country in West Africa. It had gained independence from France in 1960. Its capital is  Dakar and currency is CFA Franc. It is a major exporter of fish and peanuts.

OSDMA conferred with 2018 SKOCH Award

  • Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) was honoured with coveted SKOCH award, for the year 2018 for its remarkable achievements in the field of disaster management.
  • It was awarded for building community resilience by constructing 879 multipurpose cyclone and flood shelters across coastline and flood prone areas of State, saving human lives during Cyclone Phailin in 2013.
  • SKOCH award is highest independent honour in the country given by SKOCH Group since 2003. It honours individuals and institutions having done meritorious works in field of governance, finance, banking, disaster management, technology, corporate citizenship, economics and inclusive growth.

Ayushman Bharat and Uber ink partnership to facilitate free healthcare for drivers

  • Ride-sharing company Under has partnered National Health Authority (NHA) to facilitate free healthcare to drivers associated with it Ayushman Bharat Scheme
  • NHA is implementing Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY),  government's flagship healthcare insurance scheme.
  • Under this partnership Uber under its Uber CARE initiative for driver and delivery partners will facilitate setting up of common service centres (CSC's) at Partners Seva Kendras across India.
  • Ubers drivers and delivery partners need to pay only Rs 30 to obtain Ayushman Bharat card to provide access to services under the scheme.
  • They will not be required to pay any charges or premium for pre-hospitalisation, hospitalisation and post-hospitalisation expenses, which are all covered under the scheme.

Plastic Waste-Free India anthem launched

  • Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan launched 'Plastic Waste-Free India' anthem as a part of campaign to make India plastic-free by 2022
  • The has been produced by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Smriti Manch (PDUSM), a non-profit organisation which claims to be working on various social and environmental issues.
  • It has been launched in seven languages -- Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telegu, Malyalam and Kannada.
  • PDUSM works in association with local communities, recyclers, rag-pickers, students and other stakeholders to push for better implementation of waste management and recycling mechanism.
