Vodafone-Idea to raise call charges

  • Telecom operator Vodafone Idea  announced a hike in mobile calls and data charges from December 3.
  • The announcement has come on the backdrop of its highest quarterly loss of 50,922 crore amid an adverse Supreme Court ruling on adjusted gross revenue (AGR).
  • A rough calculation showed that the new plans are costlier up to 42% compared to earlier plans.

Labour Ministry to observe pension week

  • The government is planning to observe pension week to enroll one crore beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) and the National Pension Scheme for Traders and Self Employed Persons (NPS-Traders) by March, 2020.
  • Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar launched the drive for enrollment of the two schemes.
  • Both the schemes are hassle free and require Aadhaar card number along with a savings bank account or Jan-Dhan account are needed for enrollments.

GST revenue for November crosses ?1 lakh crore

  • The Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue collection in November stood at ? 1.03 lakh crore, the third highest since its implementation in 2017.
  • The November 2019 collection saw a 6 percent increase year-on-year, from the same period last year.
  • This is the eighth time that GST collection has crossed ? 1 lakh crore mark since its introduction in July 2017.
  • The last time the number exceeded ? 1 lakh crore was in July 2019.

Soma Roy Burman appointed Controller General of Accounts

  • The government has appointed Soma Roy Burman, a 1986-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service Officer, as the new Controller General of Accounts.
  • Burman is the 24th Controller General of Accounts and is the seventh woman to hold this position.
  • Burman has previously held cadre positions at different levels in ministries such as home affairs, information and broadcasting, industry, finance, human resource development, and shipping, road transport and highways.
