Chetan Bhagat launches book India Positive

Suraj Berry appointed as Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet

  • Rear Admiral Suraj Berry was appointed as Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet of Indian Navy. He will succeed Rear Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, who was appointed as India’s 24th Chief of Naval Staff.
  • He was commissioned in January 1987 and is specialist in Gunnery and Missile Warfare.
  • He has served as commanding officer in missile vessel INS Nirbhik, missile corvette INS Karmuk, stealth frigate INS Talwar, and aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.
  • Under his supervision, Eastern Fleet had participated in many bilateral exercises, 25th edition of SIMBEX (with Singapore Navy), ex- INDRA-18 (with Russian Navy) and JIMEX-18 (with Japanese Navy).
  • He is recipient of Vishisht Seva Medal (2006) for Tsunami Relief operations in Sri Lanka/ Maldives and Nau Sena Medal (2015).

Rima Das appointed as ambassador of TIFF’s Share Her Journey

  • Assamese filmmaker Rima Das was appointed as official ambassador of Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)’s ‘Share Her Journey’ campaign.
  • The other Indian ambassadors of campaign include Filmmakers Mira Nair, Deepa Mehta, and Actress Priyanka Chopra.
  • The five years ‘Share Her Journey’ campaign was launched by TIFF in 2017. It aimed to increase participation, skills, and opportunities for women in front and behind of camera.
  • She has won national and international awards for her film ‘Village Rockstars’, which was India’s official entry to Oscars 2019 and won Dublin Film Critics Circle Jury Award for Best Director of her film ‘Bulbul Can Sing’.
  • Recently she was honoured with ICC NE Excellence Award by Indian Chamber of Commerce at North East Business Summit in New Delhi.

Zuzana Caputova: First female President of Slovakia

  • Zuzana Caputova (45) has won Slovakia’s presidential election. With this, she became Slovakia’s first female president.
  • She will succeed the incumbent Andrej Kiska. She won by winning 58% votes and defeating high-profile diplomat Maros Sefcovic.
  • She was born on 21st June 1973 in Bratislava.  She is lawyer by profession.
  • She was honoured with Goldman Environmental Award (2016) for her strong leadership regarding Pezinok landfill affair, Caputova.
