PNB ranked first in EASE index

  • PNB was ranked first among public sector banks in EASE (Enhanced Access & Service Excellence) Index
  • The index ranks banks in implementation of reforms agenda. It is released as part ofBCG-IBA (Boston Consulting Group and Indian Banks Association) report titled ‘EASE Reforms for Public Sector Banks’.
  • EASE Index measured performance of each PSBs on 140 objective metrics across six themes, including credit off-take, customer responsiveness, clean and customer friendly banking and digitization.
  • In this index, PNB scored of 78.4 out of 100 followed by Bank of Borada (77.8), State Bank of India (74.6), Oriental Bank of Commerce (69), Canara Bank (67.5) and Syndicate Bank (67.1).
  • PNB performed well in parameters of customer responsiveness, responsible banking, credit off-take and financial inclusion etc.

March 2: Zero Discrimination Day

  • Zero Discrimination Day (ZDD) is observed every year on 1st March to promote equality before law and in practice throughout all member countries of United Nations.
  • It aims to make people realize that no one should be differentiated based on their HIV status, age, sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, language, geographical location or migrant status.
  • 2019 theme or campaign: 'Act to change laws that Discriminate'. It challenges people to act against laws that discriminate in their respective country.
  • This campaign seeks to encourage people to ask themselves "What if " and to think about their own actions.

Chris Gayle: First player to hit 500 sixes in international cricket

  • West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle has become first-ever player to smash 500 sixes in international cricket.
  • He achieved this feat in 5-match One Day International (ODI) series against England at National Cricket Stadium in Grenada, West Indies.
  • Earlier, Gayle had also toppled Shahid Afridi to record most number of sixes by any batsman in international cricket.
  • Gayle will retire from ODIs after 2019 Cricket World Cup, and has 506 sixes in international cricket (305 in ODIs, 103 in T20Is and 98 in Tests).
  • He has also broken 10,000-run mark in ODIs and become only 2nd from West Indies after Brian Lara (10,405 runs) to achieve this milestone.

India's Shashank Shekhar won Nepal's COAS Open Marathon

  • Indian sprinter Shashank Shekhar secured first position in 10 kilometre race of Nepal's Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Open Marathon and Run for Fun held at Kathmandu.
  • Shekhar belongs to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Contingent at Indian Embassy in Kathmandu. A total nine CISF personnel participated in 10 KM race category.
  • Another participant RD Murgan also from CISF secured third place and others also successfully completed run and received Certificate of Achievement.
  • COAS Open Marathon and Run for Fun is an annual event organised by Nepal Army.

Bajrang Punia wins gold medal at Dan Kolov-Nikol Petrov tournament

  • Indian ace wrestler Bajrang Punia won gold medal in 65 kilogram freestyle at Dan Kolov-Nikol Petrov tournament in Ruse, Bulgaria.
  • In the final bout, he defeated American Jordan Oliver with 12-3 score and also secured maximum ranking points from tournament.
  • This was Punia's overall 10th medal in international tournaments since 2017 World Championships in Paris.
  • In this tournament, India’s Sakshi Malik also won silver medal in 65 kg women's freestyle catory and in men's freestyle event, Sandeep Tomar won silver in 61kg.
