Abhimanyu Mithun creates record with a Hat-trick in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Semi-finals

  • Karnataka cricketer Abhimanyu Mithun has created a unique record by becoming the first cricketer to get 5 wickets in an over including a hat-trick against Haryana.
  • Mithun had snared a hat-trick in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final against Tamil Nadu last month.
  • Mithun is the only cricketer in India who has a hat-trick in all three formats of Indian domestic cricket.

Air Asia COO Sanjay Kumar quits

  • In a blow to AirAsia India, Sanjay Kumar, its chief operating officer (COO) — for just about a year has resigned from the position.
  • Kumar is among the most experienced aviation professionals in India who had joined the Tata-AirAsia JV on December 3, 2018, after heading network and commercial at IndiGo for 12 years.

Centuries old frozen puppy found

  • An ancient puppy has been discovered completely frozen and perfectly preserved in Siberian permafrost.
  • The specimen was carbon dated and found to be 18,000 years old, but looks and feels like a fresh specimen.
  • It is not known if the specimen is a wolf or a dog, or a product of the evolutionary transition from wolves to domesticated dogs.
  • If it turns out to be a dog it would be the earliest confirmed dog specimen.

Swiss firm Zurich Airport to develop Jewar Airport

  • Switzerland’s Zurich Airport International AG  emerged as the highest bidder for the proposed international airport at Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The first phase of the project is due to be operational by 2023, when it will handle 12 million passengers per year.
  • The Jewar airport will be the National Capital Region’s third, after the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and Ghaziabad’s Hindon. 

Malayalam poet Akkitham wins Jnanpith award

  • Eminent Malayalam poet Akkitham has been chosen for the 55th Jnanpith Award.
  • Apart from poetry, Akkitham has footprints in genre like drama, reminiscence, critical essays, children literature, short stories and translations.
  • He is a Padma Shri Awardee and  has won several literary accolades including the Sahitya Akademi Award (1973), Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award (1972 and 1988), Mathrubhumi Award, Vayalar Award and Kabir Samman.
